But, you see, that's the alternative no one ever talks about. We always talk about White students reading the book and feeling bad about themselves. Still, we never talk about how empowering it can be for White students to acknowledge the sins of the past and rise above them, to distinguish themselves from the barbaric practices of slave owners and segregationists, and white supremacists.
